Updated the cushions.....
The cabin of the tug is pretty well laid out but its also pretty tight for extended trips. Alone on an overnight there is plenty of room for me to sleep and have all of my gear stowed in the forward bunk. With a guest the space becomes much tighter and requires the shuffling around of any gear that you want to keep stowed and dry. Having spent 20 + nights on the boat after my first year I decided to update the cushions and replace the fabric. One of the problems with the forward berth is that the factory cushions are in 2 separate pieces. When I wanted to get something out from under the berth I had to move all of the gear off of one of the sides and then lift the whole long cushion up. Also the upholstery done at the factory was of good quality but had started to show its age with wear. The seashell motif wasn’t quite my vibe either.
The solution was to remove the 2 big cushions, slice them in half and then have them reupholstered. I picked a darker fabric and was happy with the results. Now I can lift up on section of the bunk to turn on the bow thrusters or get something that I have stowed underneath. There is a huge amount of storage space under the bunks for things like food and gear that I don’t need immediate access to. I got a few yards of fabric at a local store and brought it to an auto upholstery shop nearby. The results were great and I can’t wait to sleep on them come spring. Total cost including material and labor was about $200.
